Harlow's Community Safety Backbone - SHP Awards

The Safer Harlow Partnership has awarded outstanding individuals and organisations who have made a difference in making Harlow a safer place. The partnership encouraged local people and groups in the town to make nominations to those who had made a special effort or gone that extra mile to make the town or area safer.
The selected winners were presented their awards by Lynn Seward, head of community services at Harlow Council and police superintendent Steve Graysmark at a ceremony at the Civic Centre, Thursday November 1, with each of the following winners receiving an award and certificate:
Fawbert and Barnard School - a school which has demonstrated real innovation and/or commitment to using education to encourage pupils to understand their rights and responsibilities;
Bob Day - an individual who has shown outstanding enthusiasm and commitment to making people feel safer in Harlow;
Albert Hobdell - for a project that has demonstrated real innovation in tackling crime in harlow, either by prevention or detection;
Mike Duckmanton - an individual who has taken real steps to help tackle crime in Harlow either by his own actions or by leading a group;
Independent Advisory Group Harlow - for a project that has taken innovative steps to improve the environment in a way which deters crime and enables people to feel safer;
Debbie Dobran - an individual who has demonstrated and outstanding ability to support a victim/victims of crime.
Lynn Seward, head of community services at Harlow Council, said: “Various projects in Harlow to tackle crime and disorder have been achieved, not just by the council or its partners, but also by local people and smaller organisations taking the lead. Those individuals and organisations that have gone out their way to make Harlow a safer place deserve the recognition these awards bring. Whether it’s for taking a stand in the community or setting up a project all award winners are great role models for the town.”
Supt Steve Graysmark said: "Reducing crime and disorder is our key priority, but the police cannot do it alone. These individuals have shown innovation and commitment to help keep our communities safe and improve the quality of life for others. They are truly deserving of these awards."
The partnership is made up of local organisations ? Harlow Council, Essex Police, Essex Fire & Rescue Service, Essex County Council and Harlow Primary Care Trust who are working together to reduce crime and disorder to make Harlow a safer place. The Safer Harlow Partnership is part of the Harlow 2020 Local Strategic Partnership.
