Harlow shops respond well to 'Challenge 21'

There has been a vast improvement in the number of shops making underage alcohol sales in Harlow since the introduction of the ‘Challenge 21’ policy. Last year Harlow had one of the worst records for underage alcohol sales in Essex, so Essex County Council Trading Standards has been working with Harlow Council, Essex Police and the Safer Harlow Partnership to tackle the problem


Puppet workshop tackles bullying

Bullying can affect how children behave and learn in school. In some cases it can affect the rest of the victim’s life. Bullying can include name-calling and isolating, as well as physical violence. More recently cyber-bullying, carried out through email and mobile phone text messaging, has become a new way in which victims can be targeted.


Targeting of underage drinking continues

Over the last few months, the Partnership has been contacting all off sales premises to educate them about the law relating to alcohol sales. It has and is continuing to test all the premises by sending people who have just turned 18 into stores to attempt to buy alcohol in order to see which shopkeepers check their ID before selling them drink.
