Reducing the risk of alcohol-related crime and disorder
As the main priority for the Partnership, a dedicated priority group was formed to tackle alcohol-related crime and disorder.
A programme of ongoing information that promotes responsible drinking was devised, including the following initiatives
- Community Alcohol Partnership Campaign was launched, educational packs were distributed to licensed premises, and the programme includes an enhanced test purchasing programme.
- A scheme targeting the young people drinking and causing anti social behaviour in continuing across the whole town and is supported by Police, Council Licensing and Community Safety teams along side Essex County Council Trading Standards.
- Young people identified are subject to the Red Card Yellow card scheme that progressively addresses the issues with the young people and their families through various levels of intervention.
Further initiatives include
- Two taxi marshals provided to operate in Terminus Street and Post Office Road ranks on a Friday and Saturday night between midnight and 4am.
- Local radio adverts on ten-17fm, to coincide with the National Know Your Limits 'Binge Drinking and 'UNITS' campaigns.
